Matthew Bui - Junior Black Belt

Hello, my name is Matthew Bui, I currently am a Shodan (1st Dan - Black. Belt). I like Karate.   I have learned a lot of discipline from Karate, it helps me through difficult times in the real world, and at home.   I also like to do other sports like badminton, tennis, etc.   Music is one of my hobbies also. My favorite composer is Chopin, his music is fascinating.

I started Karate around the age of 7 with my brother Luke back in 2013.   In my first class, I was like, "Wow, this is So COOL!". So I started and began to understand the basics and terminology.  It was fascinating and exciting at the same time when I started to learn more and more about Karate's history.   The better I become, the more interested the Karate hits me as I progress.  I became more mature and disciplined (not going to lie, I was a dream head at the beginning-lol).

We, (as a club), follow the Wado Canada Association with our current Head-Master Saiko Shihan Greg Reid. He's fantastic, even though I didn't meet him yet.  In one of our clinics, Rokudan Wayne Duguay told us stories about him and Saiko Shihan Greg and that each time they did sparring practice he always ended up with bruises because his technique was so strong.

In Karate, you don't have to be perfect, just do the best of what you can do.   My favourite thing about Karate is probably kumite (sparring),  I can use many different techniques, like flying kicks or combos on my opponent in Karate, so I learned how to love these techniques.  Well, you will have some moments making mistakes, but doing your best is what really matters in Karate.

As I grew up in the club with my sensei(s), I learned many things about myself: mental, physical, and spiritual, I would like to thank my sensei(s) for your teachings, and your dedication for the club.
Our Mission Statement:
The Yellowknife Wado Karate Club is a non-profit, family orientated traditional karate organization focusing on  Hironori Otsuka's and Masuru Shintani's teachings and values of integrity, honesty, courage and humility.

Our club promotes a traditional karate training regime for adults and children in a safe and positive learning environment.  We p
romote and support opportunities for children, young adults and adults to develop sound karate and self-defense skills,  in a manner that promotes physical fitness, personal discipline and healthy lifestyles.

Our objective is to support and preserve our Master's teachings and values through the teaching of traditional Wado  Karate and Shindo.
