About our Club
Who are We? We are a not-for-profit Karate Club based in Yellowknife, NWT. Certified Black Belt instructors in both Wado karate, and its sub-discipline Shindo, teach classes on a voluntary basis. For twelve (12) years we have provided students with a quality environment to improve their character, discipline, focus, fitness and confidence through the learning and practicing of Karate. What is Karate? Traditionally, Karate is a system of civil self defense. The definition of karate means literally "empty hands". Developed in Okinawa, it blends various elements of unarmed fighting and defense techniques into a system that may be used to keep its practitioner physically fit, environmentally aware, and safe from harm. Originally, Karate practiced three areas of unarmed combat: grapples and locks, wrestling, and most famously striking. All three areas of self defense were studied through forms known as Kata. What to Expect?
